Welcome to ELD- English Language Development Program

We value the linguistic and cultural diversity of our students. The English Language Learner program is designed to help speakers of other languages to develop proficiency in English and achieve success in content area classes.

Students are assessed and placed in classes based on their language proficiency. All students take English classes, and take (when available), sheltered (SET) classes, or a combination. Sheltered (SET) classes are classes in which the teachers are trained to work with ELL students and use strategies to help them learn both English and the content material.

The goal of the ELL program is for students to continue to develop their native language skills while continuously improving their English to the point where they can be successful in non-ELL courses. Students will be exited from the program when they demonstrate this level of skill in English.
