Welcome to Alternative Education Programs

LIFTT

LIFTT is a program that supports students’ academic and emotional needs.  LIFTT classes are designed to support students’ academic goals, help them get to know who they are, navigate school systems, and see their valued role at Tualatin High School and the community. The LIFTT program is composed of a team of teachers and administrators who provide wraparound supports. The goal of the LIFTT program is to break down barriers with the intent to develop relationships and trust. The ultimate result is that LIFTT students become more connected to the school community and graduate from high school. Referrals for the LIFTT program start with counselors and administrators.

SQUAD

SQUAD is a support class for a group of students, who are selected by a referral and interview process during their 8th grade year. Students can choose to remain in SQUAD for all 4 years of high school. This is a classroom that creates a caring community and provides a variety of team building activities. SQUAD provides accountability to students in the areas of attendance, academic performance. Students in SQUAD are regularly given opportunities to get involved in the Tualatin High School community as well. SQUAD provides a safe space where students can ask for help and strive to be the best version of themselves on a daily basis.

(CE) 2

Community Experience for Career Education, (CE)2, is available to juniors and seniors who have completed 10 credits. (CE)2 offers students a unique, career centered pathway to graduation. During four-week long internships with our local community business partners, students learn critical job skills and explore career opportunities while earning elective credit. Internships are four days per week for approximately three hours each day. (CE)2 students are placed on an individualized academic plan based on their specific credit needs.  Our online academic courses are self paced and do require a daily commitment outside of school. (CE)2 meets daily during periods 1/2/3 and 5/6/7.  All students graduating from (CE)2 will receive a regular diploma. To be admitted, apply online with your counselor and complete an orientation with CE2 staff. Please visit the CE2/HSC website at https://tualatince2.weebly.com/ for helpful links and more information.

Pathways

Pathways is designed to be a safe, predictable place that supports students on a pathway to graduation, career, and independent living. Focus areas include:  self-awareness and ability to regulate emotions, relationship and communication skills, and organizational skills to manage school and work. Each student's individual path is crafted along with their family based on the student’s goals,  needs, and the strengths and resources they have to work with. Flexible program options allow for students to access their high school education in different ways.  Placement in Pathways is determined through coordination with the student’s IEP team.

High School Completion

High School Completion (HSC) offers an accelerated opportunity for seniors to graduate from TuHS. To qualify for admission into HSC, a senior must have five or fewer credits remaining to graduate. One of which can be elective and/or fine art credit. Students are placed on individualized academic plans based on their specific credit needs. Our online courses are paced toward graduation goals. HSC is 2nd/3rd and 6th/7th periods daily. Regular attendance is expected. All students graduating from HSC will receive a regular diploma. To be admitted, apply online with your counselor. Please visit the CE2/HSC website at https://tualatince2.weebly.com/ for helpful links and more information.

Credit Recovery

Credit Recovery is an opportunity for students to recover credit in those core classes where a passing grade was not achieved. Counselors will determine placement based on various factors. Students may choose to take the classes for a letter grade. This prevents them from taking pre-tests and all quizzes and unit tests must be taken in front of the teacher. Students placed in Credit Recovery are expected to work on their online, self-paced course(s) both in class and at home. Attendance in class is required. Once a student has recovered their required credits, they will be exited from the class and their recovered course(s) will be added to their transcript. Students do not forecast for credit recovery on their own.  Students do earn .5 elective credits per semester as long as they have attended at least 60% of the class days of a semester.
