Stranger on the Bus - 09/19/23
Dear Tualatin High Families,
I am writing to share with you a situation that happened at school. A young woman who is not a student boarded one of our school buses and rode to Tualatin High. She was not identified as not being a student until she arrived at school and entered the building. Students immediately identified the woman, reported to staff and SRO Brian Miller took her into a room to hold while law enforcement responded. The woman was transported off campus under supervision. During the process, the rest of the school was put into a state of hold in place while police determined the safest course of action. That hold has since been released, and students and staff are clear to move around the building.
We are working closely with our law enforcement partners and have begun a full investigation of this situation. As this activity has caused a disruption to our regular morning schedule, we are communicating to keep you informed and ensure you that there is no cause for concern to our staff, students, or building.
Please know we will be working closely with our transportation partners to tighten up our process of responsibly identifying our students, and who should not be permitted to enter a bus.
My thanks to the students who brought this to our attention.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Michael Dellerba, Principal
Notification of "Secure the Perimeter" at Tualatin High School - 03/12/24
Dear TuHS Families,
As part of our practice and in our commitment to keeping you all informed, I am writing to let you know of an incident that occurred today that required us to Secure the Perimeter of the building (formerly known as lock-out).
At approximately 10:30 am a student became dysregulated outside Tualatin High School.
Tualatin HS staff, Tualatin Police Department and community support staff responded to the incident. The student was able to de-escalate and leave campus voluntarily.
During our process of Secure the Perimeter, all staff and students are brought inside of the building and we continue with business as usual. Staff ensure that all exterior doors are locked and no one is permitted to enter or exit the building until we receive the “All Clear.” This is standard procedure to ensure the safety of our students and staff. The “All Clear” message was sent back out to staff at 11:30 am.
As always, the safety of our students is our primary concern. Please know, we have procedures and policies in place to maintain a safe learning environment for all.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Michael Dellerba, Principal
